Pilates is key of exercises as it aims to help improve the function of our bodies, working to strengthen our core stability, (upper and lower abdominal, back and buttock muscles), and at the same time incorporating flexibility, good posture, joint & spinal mobility.
Pilates is known to help those suffering with back pain/conditions, neck pain, arthritis and many other injuries and conditions that effect our every day life, it’s also used by sports men and women, as it helps improve the function of your muscles to help improve performance.
When talking about Pilates we must mention our pelvic floor muscles that wrap round our lumbar spine to add support through all activities, however research has shown that the pelvic floor muscles can be prevented from working efficiently in individuals who suffer from lower back pain. Therefore through consciously activating your pelvic floor muscles in controlled exercises, this in turn allows them to sub consciously contract when doing your daily and sporting activities, lowering the chance of your pain flaring up again and helping prevent injury.
Pilates is for all ages and abilities, everyone has a slightly different reason for going, but for the same goal, to improve the ability and function of our bodies.
